Drug Treatment for College Students
When most people think of college students and the issues that they face, they see alcohol, and alcoholism, as the number one issue. Unfortunately, drugs are also an issue at the college level. When considering the amount of students in high school who have access to drugs, the amount of students in college with that same access is sure to increase. This increase, mixed with partying and drinking, can lead to a more dangerous environment for any student.
When should drug treatment for college students be considered? Like alcohol, drugs are something that seems prevalent in any college situation. Drugs, however, are unlike alcohol in the sense that they are illegal at any age. Drugs can also have a more damaging affect on your life. Some students may use their grocery money on the purchase of drugs; this can lead to disruption in life in multiple ways. Students who are constantly hungry (and high) may not perform well in the classroom.
The actual schooling part of college is the main reason that students come to study in the first place. If drugs are affecting their school work, you may consider recommending drug treatment. If drugs are managing to affect their work in general as well, you may also recommend drug treatment. If a student has to work to pay bills or purchase food, and they’re consistently missing work or getting fired from their jobs, this could be (and is most likely) linked with their drug use, and should be immediately pointed out.
Drug abuse can affect every aspect of someone’s life. At college, drugs can easily affect a person’s school work as well as their work life. Drug treatment can help pull these aspects of their life back together so they can be more productive and perform well in school.
