Don’t Wait for Rock Bottom to Get Addiction Treatment
People used to think that it was necessary for addicts to “hit rock bottom” before they could be helped with a substance abuse problem. Fortunately, we now know better. There is absolutely no reason to wait until an individual gets into an even worse situation to get them the help that they need for alcoholism or drug addiction. Rehabilitation programs can be beneficial and aid in recovery at any stage of the progression of this disease.
“Rock bottom” is when the addict no longer has anything left to look forward to or bring them any form of pleasure in their life. This means that they have probably lost their job or dropped out of school, lost their family, run out of money, and lost their home. There may be legal trouble and any number of other problems. They are in a state of being defeated in all areas. They’re having health problems, are mentally exhausted, and spiritually broken.
Why would you wait until someone go to this point to get them addiction treatment, knowing that it is not necessary? Anyone can maintain addiction recovery when the correct rehab program is chosen for their individual needs and they are able to develop a strong level of commitment to changing. It’s best if the motivation that drives them to do the necessary hard work is in place before they go to a treatment center, but it is sometimes developed while an addict is in a drug and alcohol rehab program. In most cases, waiting to get help will only make recovery a more difficult and drawn out process. It will just allow more severe problems, like legal trouble and health conditions, build up when they are not really necessary. Get the help that is needed as soon as possible from a rehabilitation program.
