Statistics for Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction in Arizona

Data gathered in the year 2004 indicated that there were 37,295 people who were admitted to various centers for alcohol and substance abuse treatment in Arizona, and that out of these 3,310 people were admitted for an alcohol addiction. This figure proved that alcohol is not a major contributor for the entire problem of substance abuse in Arizona, but if you consider some further figures, you will find that the issue is indeed alarming.

1. As already mentioned, 3,310 people sought admissions in centers for rehab treatment in Arizona for their alcohol treatment only. But, there was a much larger number of people who sought such admissions with an alcohol problem that was compounded with one other drug. This number of people who were with a dual addiction problem was pegged at 4,199.
2. The total number of people in Arizona who either abuse alcohol or are dependent on it is 411,000. This is a yearly average over the past few years.
3. Age statistics show that there is a very significant number of the juvenile population who is into alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction in Arizona. About 35,000 people of the age group of 12 to 17 years are either abusers or addicts of alcohol. This is the number of people who are consuming alcohol on a very drastic level, per year in Arizona.
4. The total number of Arizonians of the age group between 18 to 25 years who have some or the other kind of health problem due to alcohol addiction is 117,000.

It is needless to say how disturbing these statistics are. They clearly indicate that it is the juvenile population that is more affected by alcoholism in Arizona than the older population. The situation certainly calls out for some quick measures.
